古河市、自転車中心の街づくり

茨城県の古河市で、自転車を交通体系の中心にすえる 事業が始まった。市の構想によると、まず市内に自転車専用道路を張り巡らし、 駅や商店街の近辺に共用自転車を設置する。すでに自転車専用道路の 一部は完成しているが整備はまだこれからである。
自転車を中心とした街づくりはオランダが有名だ。 特にアムステルダムでは自転車専用道を整備し、貸自転車システムを導入している。 これにより中心街から自動車を締め出し、環境を優先した交通体系が整備されている。
古河市が日本版のアムステルダムになり、先鞭をつけて欲しいものだ。
２１世紀は脱クルマ社会を実現しなければならないが、いまだにディーゼルエンジンの トラックやバスは有害な排気ガスを撒き散らしている。 これは犯罪行為ではないだろうか？ 我々サイクリストの我慢も既に限界にきているのだが。

　

ローバーの歴史

本家イギリスでローバーの専門書が発行された。 １８８５年製造の元祖ローバーから１９９６年のランド・ローバーまでを紹介。 著者はベテラン・サイクルクラブのＪ．ピンカートン氏とＤ．ロバーツ氏。

ダルマ自転車発見

名古屋の八神氏からの情報によると、明治２５年頃の 国産ダルマ型自転車が骨董屋で発見されたとのこと。
詳細については不明だが、久々のビックニュース である。
その写真を見ると完璧な状態であり、フロントの泥除けやそのステー部分に 特徴的な意匠を見ることができる。
都合により写真を掲載できないのが残念である。
